You don’t need to install anything to save a YouTube video on a Windows PC, Mac or Linux computer. Any modern browser will do.
Step 1: Copy the video link
Open the video on youtube.com and copy the address from the browser bar, or click Share under the video and choose Copy. Links look like youtube.com/watch?v=… or youtu.be/….
Step 2: Paste it into Youtube4DL
Go to the Youtube4DL downloader, paste the link into the box and press Start. A preview with the video’s title and the available qualities appears after a few seconds.
Step 3: Choose a format and download
Stay on the Video tab for MP4, or switch to Audio for MP3. Click Download next to the quality you want. Your browser saves the file to its Downloads folder.
Finding the file
- Windows: press Ctrl+J in Chrome or Edge to open the downloads list, or open File Explorer and go to Downloads.
- Mac: click the downloads arrow in Safari’s toolbar, or open Finder and choose Downloads.
Tips
- For editing in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or iMovie, choose 1080p. It uses the H.264 codec those apps open without trouble.
- Use a download manager only with 360p or M4A; they are the formats that support pausing and resuming.
- If nothing happens when you click Download, allow pop-ups and downloads for this site in your browser settings.
