Download a video in three steps

    In the YouTube app tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address bar.

    Choose MP4 from 144p to 4K, or switch to audio. The file saves straight away.

How to download a YouTube Short

In the YouTube app, tap the Share arrow on the Short and choose Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar – it looks like youtube.com/shorts/…. Paste it into the box above and press Start.

Full vertical quality

Shorts are filmed in portrait, so a “1080p” Short is 1080 pixels wide and 1920 pixels tall. Youtube4DL labels qualities by the shorter side, just like YouTube does, and keeps the vertical shape intact – no black bars, no cropping.

Save the sound only

Heard a sound you want to reuse in your own video? Switch to the Audio tab to save the Short’s soundtrack as MP3 or M4A. Make sure you’re allowed to reuse it: many Shorts use licensed music.

Reposting Shorts

Downloading a Short doesn’t give you the right to post it on TikTok, Instagram or your own channel. If you want to feature someone’s Short, ask the creator first and credit them.

Questions people ask

Does the Shorts downloader work on iPhone?

Yes. Paste the link in Safari, choose a quality and the video is saved to the Files app. From there you can save it to Photos.

Why is the Short labelled 1080p when it is 1920 pixels tall?

Video quality is named after the shorter side. A vertical 1080×1920 video is 1080p.

Can I download Shorts without the watermark?

YouTube Shorts don't carry a download watermark. You get the video exactly as it is on YouTube.
